We believe that everyone has a place in building Kid Success Neighborhoods and Cities. There are many meaningful ways that you can get involved and support our mission. Our work simply cannot advance without your support.
Explore Ways to Volunteer
Our volunteer tutors meet one-on-one with their students for hour-long sessions, twice a week. Our tutors receieve in depth training and work closely with our staff to help our students reach personalized reading goals. Students in our tutoring programs are K-3rd grade.
Garden Hero volunteers support our hubs by regularly maintaining garden spaces through activities like planning, weeding, pruning, and harvesting. They can work independently or alongside other volunteers and community members. Garden Heroes typically visit their preferred hub once a week for 1-2 hours during the peak growing season. This opportunity is available from early spring through late fall.
Volunteer Program Facilitators collaborate with our Program Department to lead programs that advance our mission. We strive to match volunteers with programs that relate to their interests and skills. In-depth program training is provided. Facilitator-led activities include book clubs, arts and crafts sessions, music classes, and more. These volunteers typically commit to a consistent weekly time slot, for a set period, generally a few months.
Hub event volunteers generally arrive an hour before an event begins and stay about an hour after the event ends, or until cleanup is complete. Tasks may include decorating and setting up tables and chairs, preparing and serving food, managing activity stations, or helping welcome guests. Hub Event Support volunteers may stay for the duration of the event or for a shift that their schedule allows. Events that these volunteers support include open houses, community dinners, backpack giveaways, literacy nights and more.
Beautification volunteers help maintain safe and welcoming outdoor spaces at our hubs by planting flowers, trimming bushes and hedges, removing vines from fences, mulching playgrounds, and more. Beautification volunteers ensure that our outdoor community spaces are not only beautiful, but safe for the families we serve.
We welcome volunteer support in maintaining clean, functional, and welcoming spaces at our hubs. We seek volunteers to organize donations in storage areas such as basements, garages, and our free clothing closets, which provide families with access to high-quality, seasonally appropriate clothing at no cost. Volunteers also sort and catalog books, rotate seasonal clothing, and develop simple, organized systems to ensure families can easily find the resources they need when they need them.

Volunteers interested in supporting instead of leading a program are also welcome. These supporting volunteers may help set-up materials for pre-existing programs, encourage student participation, and reset spaces after program sessions, ensuring a smooth and engaging experience for both our participants and our facilitator(s).
