In recognition of April being National Volunteer Month, Brilliant Detroit is highlighting some of our most dedicated and longest running service partners. For this piece, we spoke with our partners at the NRI Vasavi Association (NRIVA).
NRI Vasavi Association is a social and cultural non-profit organization for all Vasavi followers, also known as Vasavites, across the globe. Vasavites follow the teachings of Hindu goddess Vasavi Kanyakaparameswari Devi which focus on non-violence, integrity, and duty. With chapters worldwide, NRIVA connects Vasavites across the globe and encourages them to serve their communities. The organization is also committed to sharing their beliefs and cultures with people of all backgrounds.
How did you first hear about/connect with Brilliant Detroit?
NRIVA’s Become-A-Tutor program has been a valued partner in supporting Brilliant Detroit’s mission to help children thrive. We first connected through a shared contact, focusing on strengthening communities through education and volunteerism.
What about Brilliant Detroit’s work or mission motivated you to partner with us?
Brilliant Detroit’s focus on creating supportive learning environments for children in underserved neighborhoods resonated deeply with our nonprofit’s mission. Their work aligns closely with our belief that every child deserves access to encouragement, resources, and opportunities to succeed.
How do you feel your work has made an impact?
Our partnership has made a meaningful impact by bringing dedicated tutors to young children who benefit from extra attention and guidance. Through consistent support, we have reinforced learning, built confidence, and created positive educational experiences for the children Brilliant Detroit serves.
What would you say to others considering volunteering or partnering with Brilliant Detroit?
Anyone who values service and community impact should consider partnering with Brilliant Detroit. It is a mission-driven organization making a real difference at the neighborhood level, and this partnership creates lasting value for both volunteers and the families they support.
