Morningside is a neighborhood of movers and shakers, a self-proclaimed “community on the rise.” It was the neighbors of Morningside who came together to reclaim the historic Alger Theater from abandonment, who have revitalized parks and are building a neighborhood greenway, and who come together to board up vacant houses, discourage scrappers, and start community gardens. The Morningside Community Organization, a highly active group of long-time residents, has partnered with numerous organizations and entities, including the City of Detroit, Detroit Future City, SAY Detroit, and Brilliant Detroit. With a revitalizing East Warren business district bisecting the community, this is a very walkable neighborhood full of people coming together.
