Michelle De La Isla

Board Director, 2024 to Present

Born in New York City and raised in Puerto Rico, Michelle moved to Kansas in 2000 to finish her bachelor’s degree. She worked at Upward Bound and the Housing and Credit Counseling, Inc. before entering the political arena. She served on the Topeka City Council (2013-2016), Deputy Mayor (2016-2018), and Mayor of Topeka (2018-2022). She is in the MPA program for mid-career professionals at Harvard University. While Mayor, she also served as a Managing Director for the Draper Richards Kaplan Foundation, which has an international funding portfolio including Brilliant Detroit. In 2023, she left DRK Foundation for her current role.
